We store almost nothing about you

Not a shortened version of a longer policy. This is the whole thing, because there is almost nothing to describe.

If you subscribe

The one exception to everything below: if you type your email address into the newsletter form and press subscribe, we store that address, and only that address, and keep it to ourselves. It is used for exactly one thing, sending you updates when new entries go up, and it is never sold, shared, or handed to anyone else. Nothing else about you is attached to it: not the year you picked, not your IP address, not which pages you have read. Don't type anything into that field and this section doesn't apply to you.

The year you pick

It goes nowhere. Choosing a year simply takes your browser to a page that already existed before you arrived. The year is not sent to us, not written to a cookie, not put in local storage, and not remembered when you come back. Come back tomorrow and the picker will have forgotten you entirely, which is the intended behaviour rather than a bug.

No accounts, ever

There is no sign-up, no login, no comment box, and no way for anyone to look you up on this site. The newsletter field above is the only thing here that asks you for anything, and it's opt-in: skip it and this site knows nothing about you.

What we measure

Pages carry a lightweight measurement that is cookie-less and does not fingerprint. It counts page views, the referrer, and a country derived from the network connection, all aggregated. It never sees a name, an email, an IP address we retain, or a profile of you across sites, and there is no identifier that could join one visit of yours to another.

It exists so we can see whether anyone is reading, and from where. That is the entire ambition.

If you arrive on a shared link

When you share a fact from this site, the link carries a small label saying where it was shared: that it came from a Reddit post, say, rather than a WhatsApp message. If you then arrive on a link carrying such a label, we count it: the label, which page you landed on, and the same coarse country the measurement above uses. It lets us tell an audience reached through the newsletter from one reached through social sharing.

What that count never includes: your IP address, a cookie, a device fingerprint, or any identifier that could tie it to another visit or to the email you may have subscribed with. It is counted, not traced. Arrive on a plain, unlabelled link, as most people do, and nothing is recorded at all.

No cookies

None. Not analytics cookies, not preference cookies, not “essential” cookies. This is why you were not shown a consent banner: there is nothing to consent to.

Fonts and assets

Every font, image, and script is served from this site’s own domain. Nothing is pulled from anyone else’s servers, so no third party learns you were here by way of a font request.

Links out

Source citations point at other people’s sites. Once you click one, you are in their hands and their policy, not ours. Share buttons open the target service’s own compose window and load nothing from it until you click.
