The GLP-1 weight-loss drugs are injections; they can't be made into an ordinary pill
The old claim turned out to be wrong and was rejected by evidence.

NowOn 1 April 2026 the FDA approved Foundayo (orforglipron), the first small-molecule GLP-1 receptor agonist: a once-daily pill you can take any time of day, with no food or water restrictions, and that can be manufactured at pharmaceutical scale like an ordinary tablet.
What actually happened
There is a real distinction hiding in the old claim. The first oral GLP-1 drugs were the peptide kind smuggled past the gut with absorption tricks, needing an empty stomach and strict timing, barely a normal pill. Orforglipron is a different animal: a small chemical molecule, not a peptide, so it survives digestion on its own and can be made by the ton in a standard chemistry plant rather than grown in cell cultures.
That is why 'disproved' fits the categorical version of the claim: a GLP-1 drug that behaves like an everyday small-molecule pill was said to be off the table, and now one is approved. The hedges are that injectables still tend to drive somewhat more weight loss, and long-term data are young. But the practical wall (needle-only, or a finicky peptide pill at best) came down. The class now includes a tablet you take like a vitamin.
